McClendon and NeSmith Gifted and Talented classes were awarded a CISD Education Foundation grant last spring to purchase puzzles from the You Can Do the Cube program. Using this STEM-approved project, GT students in 1st - 5th grades were able to use the six colors from 100 Rubik’s Cubes to create an image of Chief Sitting Bull. It was exciting to see the students celebrate the success of teamwork while learning about algorithms and pixels.
CISD Gifted and Talented Specialist Tonya Kennedy says the students are looking forward to building additional images using this non-traditional, yet challenging atmosphere for learning. Mrs. Kennedy also wanted to send a very special thank you to the CISD Education Foundation, “I am so grateful that the Community ISD Education Foundation awarded us the grant funds to provide such a thought-provoking activity.”
