NHS & Girl Scouts STEM

February 2020 - Members of our local Girl Scouts, Troop 3048 and Troop 3186, recently had the opportunity to earn two STEM badges with the help of CHS National Honor Society students and MES teacher Pam Simmons.

Thanks to NHS president, Sam Simmons for organizing the service opportunity for NHS students. Three of the NHS members, Eymi, Rebecca, and Jackie are also part of the Digital Divas, an all-girl team that completes in UIL coding events representing CISD.

The scouts, who attend NeSmith, McClendon and Edge Middle School, completed two badges in the course of the evening by participating in stations in binary coded bracelets, coding with a drag and drop format to animate a character on screen, engineering a lego challenge and completing in a bot-driven obstacle course.

MES 2nd grade teacher, Pam Simmons, helped organize the event and said she was proud to bring together the younger Braves with the CHS Braves for an evening of learning aboout STEM. "It was amazing to watch the girls grow and begin a journey of discovery with bots and coding," Simmons added. "Everyone said they wanted to have another evening of STEM activites soon!"
