Dr. Roosevelt Nivens Named 2019 Region 10 Superintendent of the Year
On Thursday, June 27, 2019, CISD Superintendent Dr. Roosevelt Nivens was named the 2019 Region 10 Education Service Center Superintendent of the Year. Since 1984, the Texas Association of School Boards Superintendent of the Year (SOTY) award program has honored outstanding administrators' achievement and excellence in public school administration. These school leaders exhibit exemplary and visionary leadership toward improving student performance. They are chosen for their strong leadership skills, dedication to improving the quality of education in their districts, and commitment to public support and involvement in education.
Named CISD Superintendent in July, 2015, Dr. Nivens is the son of two lifetime educators who combined to serve almost 90 years in public schools. He has followed in their footsteps for over two decades teaching and leading in diverse and challenging school environments. CISD Board President Mike Shepard says it is Dr. Nivens' innate passion, focused vision and inspired leadership that have made such a DIFFERENCE in Community ISD. "On behalf of my fellow Trustees, we were honored to share his story and we are not at all surprised he was selected by the Region 10 committee as Superintendent of the Year," said Shepard.
Dr. Nivens is among 19 regional finalists who will be interviewed by the state committee in Austin on August 23-24, 2019. The committee will select five state finalists, and one TASB Superintendent of the Year. The district of the TASB Superintendent of the Year receives a $5,000 award, which will be presented at the 2019 TASA/TASB Convention in Dallas on September 21, 2019. The award program is underwritten by Balfour and sponsored by TASB. The winner also receives a ring from Balfour. The districts of the four state finalists each receive $1,000.
