Children need good nutrition all year long. When school is out during the summer months, many children no longer have access to even one nutritious meal each day. Summer Meal Programs help to fill the gap. Research shows a lack of nutrition during the summer months may set up a cycle for poor performance once school begins. We must do all we can to ensure that children get nutritious food during the summer months so that they are ready to learn during the school year.
This summer, Community ISD will be providing free breakfast and lunch to any child 18 years and younger at three different locations as part of the Summer Meals program funded by the USDA. Children do not have to attend Community ISD. Parents and adults may purchase a meal to eat with their child(ren). Click here for FAQs about the Summer Meal Program
The SFSP is a federally-funded, state-administered program. The SFSP reimburses providers who serve free healthy meals to children and teens in low-income areas during the summer months when school is not in session.
