Traits of a Brave: Wise
Student Spotlight: Traits of a Brave: Wise
Meet Ikimot Liasu, known to her friends and teachers as Kiki. A junior at CHS, Kiki has developed a reputation for demonstrating wisdom by listening more, studying a lot, and working hard to understand people. Coach Swigert, Kiki’s physical education teacher, believes her international background has helped shape her into a very wise young lady. “Kiki has attended school abroad in several third world countries and it has shown her the true opportunities an education can give her,” says Swigert. “Kiki knows there are no limits if she continues to work hard and fully apply herself.”
Kiki was born in Nigeria and came to the United States with her mom and sibling when she was 10 years old. After living in Lafayette, Louisiana for a short time, the family moved to Garland, Texas and eventually found their way to Lavon in the summer of 2015. However, Kiki’s international studies continued in Egypt where she lived with her uncle for two years. In the summer of 2017, Kiki rejoined her family in Lavon and became an American high school student for the first time as a freshman at CHS.
Kiki has enjoyed traveling around the world to experience the different cultures, learn new languages, meet new people and most of all try new food. She says she has learned a lot through her travels and believes it has helped her have a better perspective and appreciate things more. “Something I’ve learned from traveling to different countries and learning about different cultures, is that the little enjoyments in life matter,” said Kiki.
Kiki has worked hard at her academics and is on track to graduate a semester early with twenty-four college credits. After she graduates, Kiki plans to begin her pre-med studies at either University of Texas in Arlington or the University of North Texas. She wants to pursue a medical degree and become an OBGYN. Kiki says, “After I get my license and certifications I would love to travel around the world for a year helping with women’s health in poor countries.”
We celebrate Kiki’s wisdom and are thankful she is sharing her international insight with the Brave Nation. She truly exemplifies the Traits of a Brave and we are excited to see all the amazing things she will accomplish in the future!
