Poetry Contest Grand Prize

This fall as we prepared to break ground on the construction of a new high school, we spent some time thinking about what Community stands for and what it means to be a Brave. To mark this historic occasion we wanted to offer our students an opportunity to share their voices on the subject, so we organized the first ever (that we know of) district-wide poetry contest.

The contest was optional and allowed students an opportunity to inspire our community with an original poem. There were two winners selected from each campus and their poems were featured in the official groundbreaking program. From these eight campus winners, the committee selected one grand prize winner and CHS Junior Nick Buchanan read his poem as part of the groundbreaking ceremony on November 15, 2018. On December 10, 2018 the CISD Board of Trustees presented Nick with the $200 grand prize sponsored by Pogue Construction.
