The program recognizes Texas school boards that demonstrate outstanding dedication and ethical service to the children of Texas.

Region 10 Honor Board

Members of the nominated 2017-2018 Board of Trustees are: President Mike Shepard; Vice President Randy McCuistion; Secretary Jeff Pendill; along with members Jana Hunter, Marc Stanfield, Sean Walker, and Alicia Young. In his nominating letter, Dr. Roosevelt Nivens wrote, Since becoming superintendent in 2015, I have been inspired by the Trustees’ collective and individual commitment to provide the best opportunities and experiences for our nearly 2,300 students. They are fiercely dedicated to promoting our students, teachers, staff, administrators, volunteers, teams, programs and campuses in all that they do. These seven individuals are providing the exceptional vision and supportive leadership that is ushering the District into an exciting time of nearly double-digit enrollment growth.

Nominations were evaluated by a committee of Region 10 school superintendents based on criteria provided by the Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA). “Through their actions and leadership, Community ISD’s trustees present a shining example of how a school board should function in support of all those it serves,” said Region 10 Executive Director Gordon Taylor. “We congratulate the trustees on their receipt of this prestigious award, and we are proud to have them representing our region at the state level.”

Five school boards from among the state’s twenty service centers will be selected and recognized as Texas Honor School Boards on August 10. Thereafter, the five boards will be interviewed by the TASA School Board Awards Committee. The winner of the Texas Outstanding School Board will be announced at the joint conference of the Texas Association of School Administration on September 28, 2018 in Austin, Texas.
