2018-19 Salary Increases
Board Approves Third Raise for Community ISD Teachers in Four Years
On Monday, June 18, 2018, the Board approved the 2018-19 budget which includes a $3,000 raise for teachers, an 8% increase in pay for auxiliary and paraprofessional staff, and a 5% increase for administrators. This increase will bring the beginning teacher salary in CISD to $48,064. The increase makes the District very competitive with both 6A neighboring districts and between $2,000 and $6,000 above the beginning teacher salary in the four 4A and 5A districts which share a border with Community ISD.
“The 2018-19 pay raise combined with the increases to the salary structure approved in 2016 demonstrate the Board’s commitment to dedicate the resources necessary to attract, recruit and retain exceptional and caring staff,” said CISD Superintendent Dr. Roosevelt Nivens.
Demonstrating a Commitment to Excellence
In 2015 the CISD Board of Trustees approved a district-wide pay increase of 3% resulting in an
average raise of $1,300 for teachers. The following year, citing a continued commitment to attract and retain the highest quality teachers and staff, the Board unanimously approved changes to the salary structure for teachers, counselors, librarians and nurses. The salary for a beginning teacher jumped from $39,514 to $45,000 (an increase of over $5,400) for the 2016-17 school year, making Community ISD much more competitive with the salaries of nearby districts.
The 2016 and 2018 increases to the salary structure, as well as a Loyalty Incentive Plan which
was approved by the Board in 2014, demonstrate the Board’s commitment to dedicate the resources necessary in order to attract, recruit and retain exceptional and caring staff.
“We are committed to giving our students the very best,” said Board President Mike Shepard.
“We know that in order to bring the best and the most talented teachers to Community ISD, we have to be competitive with our surrounding districts,” Shepard added.
