Senior Service Day

On Wednesday, November 14th, the Community High School College and Career Readiness program demonstrated the Traits of a Brave Generous by holding the first Senior Service Day.

With the assistance of Mrs. Songer, Mrs. Young, Mrs. Willingham, Mr. Waters and parent, Shannon Smith; 56 senior volunteered over 350 hours working on ten different projects across the community including: NeSmith and McClendon Elementary, Community High school bathroom and library rehab, Lavon and Nevada City halls, Founders Plaza Nursing and Rehab in Wylie, and Arms of Hope in Quinlan.

Many of the students were honored to serve the people of our community. Victoria spent the day serving at the Arms of Hope in Quinlan and said “I felt many different emotions towards all the children there and would love to go back whenever I get the chance.” During her time there she was partnered with a shy little boy and enjoyed being able to connect with him by talking about the different stickers he collects. The seniors who went to serve in the daycare and both elementary schools said they wanted to give the young kids someone to look up to. Veronica had fun repainting the girls bathroom and she said “I hope the new paint job will encourage every girl who enters for years to come.

Each of the seniors who participated in the first Senior Service Day hopes it doesn’t stop here and the future seniors will get the opportunity to serve our CommUNITY it a great and rewarding way.
