Nana Boyd Hill

Nana Boyd Hill was born to L.A. and Stella Boyd on June 22, 1950 in McKinney, Texas. She attended Community Rural School District (CRSD) from first through eighth grade during segregation. She graduated from CRSD's African-American school in Josephine as valedictorian, and spent her ninth grade year at Doty High School in McKinney, which functioned as Collin County's African-American School. In her sophomore year of high school, Community Rural School District integrated its high school, and Nana returned to Brave Nation. She graduated from Community Rural High School in May 1968.

After graduating from Community, Nana attended Bishop College in Dallas, Texas, where she earned her Bachelor's Degree in English & History. Her first job in education came from Brave Nation - taking over Community ISD's Title I program at the middle school. Nana switched to teaching fifth grade the next year, and spent a total of seven years in Brave Nation before moving on to McKinney ISD. A lifelong educator, Nana is now in her 41st year of teaching at McKinney ISD and her 48th year in education. During that time she achieved her Master's Degree from Texas A&M-Commerce in 1980, was named a Christa McAuliffe Educator in 1994 by the National Foundation for the Improvement of Education (NFIE), and was a contributing author to the book "Touching the Future."

Nana and her husband, Preston Hill (deceased - July 25, 2012), have two children, Nick Hill and Devin Hill. Nick is a college professor who lives in Wylie, and Devin is a professional dancer and choreographer who lives in Washington D.C.
