  • Sounds of Spring Pre-UIL Contest Results

Thank you for letting me take our awesome students to a contest this Wednesday. Mr. Daigle‘s concert band received an excellent rating on both stage and in sight reading. Mr. Sumner’s band received superior ratings on stage and in sight reading, earning them a sweepstakes trophy. These kids did an awesome job and had a lot of responsibilities to take care of in order to make this day happen. Thank you for everything that you are doing to help our kids succeed.

  • Symphonic & Concert Band Only:

Please be aware of a few very important dates coming up quick! It is UIL Concert & Sight-Reading season which is our most important competition of the year! Think STAAR test for band! We are working hard to make our performances as best as possible.

The two most important dates are below. These dates are REQUIRED as they are competitions and I need everyone present to be the most successful.

    1. Pre UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest in Princeton on 3/5-3/7. This window of dates to dependent on when we get scheduled. As soon as we have specific date and times I will update you.
    2. THE UIL Concert & Sight-Reading Contest in Anna on 3/28. This is THE major contest.

We will also be having a few after school rehearsals/band parties to get some much needed extra practice for UIL. I will be talking with coaches and other extra-curricular sponsors to best work around schedules. After these rehearsals I want to reward the students with a pizza party for a job well done and working outside of class.

As with all performances it is also important to dress appropriately, so please make sure your student has our concert black attire we have been using this year. This means:

    • All black shirt (button-up or polo, NO T-SHIRTS)
    • All black pants
    • All black shoes
    • Black belt

The goal is to look as clean and professional as possible, however these items do not need to be expensive. Wal-mart, Target, and other stores have all of these items at low cost. Students not dressed appropriately will not be allowed to compete. As always if you have any financial constraints or issues please let me know, so we can figure something out!

If you have any questions or concerns please let me know so I can help. Thanks for all your support!

  • MS All-Region Auditions

    All Region Band

This past Friday, December 7, 2018 were the MS All-Region Auditions. Stuents from all around the region-including schools like Melissa, Anna, Van Alstyne, Farmersville, Howe, Celina, etc.-prepare audition music for the honor of making the All-Region Symphonic or Concert Bands. This audition is like a giant chair test, and students are ranked based on their scores from top to bottom.

We had 13 students from Edge Middle School respresent our school and audition for the band. Our students competed against 88 Flutes, 89 clarinets, 67 percussion, 64 trumpets, 56 trombones, 53 Saxophones, 61 Euphoniums & Tubas, and 35 French Horns. Fortunately we had 5 of our Edge Braves make the band! Lauren McDaniel, clarinet, and Andrew Carroll, tuba, made the Symphonic Band and Karrington Robinson, clarinet, Lilly Roddy, flute, and Joseph Smith, euphonium, made the Concert Band! This is the second year for Lauren McDaniel and Karrington Robinson to make the All-Region Band!

We are so proud of all our students representing our school so well!
