History of McClendon Elementary

  • McClendon Elementary opened its doors in 1998. This was because the student body had grown to the point that the building that housed kindergarten through 8th grade was over capacity.

The building is named for Carylene McClendon. She taught in Community many years, including serving as a principal while teaching and driving a bus for the district. She was a beloved and respected educator in this community.

In 2001, an additional wing was added to the building that included eight classrooms.
