Katherine Flinn

Visual Arts/GT STEM

I have been the Visual Arts teacher of Edge Middle School since 2014. I am also a STEAM Specialist (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) which means I use art to explore these subjects to better understand their content. Prior to teaching art, I was a paraprofessional in Special Education for 3 years. Making art is my passion and my goal is to inspire my students to find the creative spark within themselves. As a graduate of Community ISD, my favorite class in middle school was art so my dream was to come back and ignite that excitement for future generations of art students at Community ISD. I teach artistic skills but more importantly I teach the students how to think outside-of-the-box, problem solve, explore with new materials, and find the creative spirit within themselves.

I am a working artist and have participated in several art exhibits in the design district in Dallas. I create paintings using artwork found at thrift stores. I reimagine them in new and fun ways. A successful educator must continuously research and grow within their field of knowledge.

I am married to my better half, Kenneth, who proudly serves the United States Army. Combined we have two children, who both attend Community High School. I love Community ISD and it's my home. Once a Brave, always a Brave.
