Mrs. Trona Jurden
I graduated from Texas A&M University in 1991 with a B.S. in Instruction and Curriculum. I returned to Texas A&M University to study Reading Science and graduated with my masters in 2021. I then became a TEA Reading Specialist. I am also in the process of completing my CALP & CALT certification, so I am fully IDA certified to be an Academic Language Therapist working with dyslexic children and structured literacy. I taught first grade for 21 years in a nearby district and only recently made the shift to a dyslexia classroom. I am passionate about structured literacy! I believe instruction in phonemic awareness, orthographic mapping, and phonics build the foundation for fluent and comprehensive reading skills.
This is my first year in Community ISD. I am working with small groups at both NeSmith and McClendon. It is a joy to watch my students bloom into strong readers.
I am a mom of three grown daughters. Our youngest is a Sea Aggie studying marine science. My older two are married and both in creative careers in marketing fields. My husband is also an Aggie! We are beginning the adjustment to our empty nest and have decided we want to travel more. We have lived in the Lavon area for many years, but only recently bought a boat and began to enjoy the lake. We love to take family ski trips to Colorado.
My conference time is around 10:30 (as I travel between two campuses) and email is the best way to reach me.
