Elaine Keim

Hello! This is my fourth year in Community ISD (2nd at the high school) and still, each day, I continue to get excited by how much this district believes in and invests in its students.

I’m a graduate of Texas Tech University (WRECK ‘EM), with a Bachelor of Science in Geosciences, concentration in Geophysics, and a minor in Atmospheric Science. I interned at NASA in Greenbelt, MD, as a climate data analyst for 6 months and was previously employed with Mathnasium for 4 years, including 9 months as an Assistant Center Director.

Teaching was not something I originally planned to do; the decision to pursue teaching was more like something that slapped me in the face and made me realize that teaching is what I needed to do with my life. I believe teaching is a calling, and while teaching can have its challenges, seeing a student’s whole face light up when they finally understand a concept is the absolute best feeling. I have incredible joy and passion for teaching math and science and strive for all of my students to have the same kind of relationship with the subject. I believe teaching math in an intuitive way can allow students to make more progress than they ever thought possible. I am a lifelong learner who is always looking to improve my craft and I hope to help my students excel in all subject areas by supplying them with this same desire to learn.

My favorite types of math, in no particular order, are algebra, calculus, and comparing fractions to pizza. When I’m not working, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, performing at events, and keeping up with all things Texas Tech.

In the summer of 2020, I got asked to come and run the Engineering and Robotics Program at the high school. It has been rough getting things started during the past few years, but I'm excited to see the program grow as the word gets out about the amazing curriculum and as we work on going to more robotics competitions.
