CISD Campus Security Summits

Now more than ever, security and safety are at the forefront of our minds. While safety has always been the highest priority for Brave Nation, Community ISD is taking steps to reinforce the current security protocols with students, staff, and parents, and will begin taking input and questions from our community on what additional steps they would like the District to take.

The first step in this process was taken over the summer with damage-resistant film placed on high priority windows, and a reinforcement of annual training provided to our teachers and staff. Our CISD Police Department has also increased its presence on campuses with additional staff and higher frequency patrols.

The second step in this process begins in October with campus security summits. Starting with McClendon Elementary on Wednesday, October 5, Police Chief Scotty Morrison and Superintendent Dr. Tonya Knowlton will host a security summit at each campus across the District. At these summits, Chief Morrison and Dr. Knowlton will give a broad overview of current safety procedures, and then open the floor for questions from parents and staff. Each of our elementary campuses will host their summits in October, and the combined Edge/CHS summit will close out the series at the end of the month.

Below are the dates, times, and locations for the October summits, which are also on the District calendar (linked here).

1. Wednesday, October 5 at 6 pm - McClendon Elementary - Cafeteria
2. Wednesday, October 19 at 6 pm - NeSmith Elementary - Cafeteria
3. Tuesday, October 25 at 6 pm - Roderick Elementary - Cafeteria
4. Wednesday, October 26 at 6 pm - Edge/CHS - CHS Cafeteria

In the meantime, if you have any questions regarding security, you can connect with Dr. Knowlton (tonya.knowlton@communityisd.org) or Chief Morrison (scotty.morrison@communityisd.org) via email.
