Programs of Study

What Is a Program of Study?

A Program of Study (POS) is a coordinated, structured sequence of courses designed to prepare students for careers in high-wage, in-demand, and high-skill occupations. These programs align with statewide career clusters and provide students with the academic, technical, and employability skills needed for postsecondary education and the workforce.

CTE programs help students gain the skills needed for high-paying, in-demand careers; ensuring students are prepared for success in the workforce.

Each Program of Study includes:

  • Coherent course sequences that progressively build technical and academic skills

  • Industry-based certifications that validate students’ skills for future careers

  • Work-based learning opportunities such as internships, apprenticeships, or practicum experiences

Texas students select a Program of Study as part of their graduation endorsement under the Foundation High School Program. By completing a POS, students gain a clear pathway to college, career, or military service, ensuring they graduate future-ready with skills that meet workforce demands.
