Industry-Based Certifications
Industry-based certifications are professional credentials that show you have the skills and knowledge needed for a specific career. High school students can earn an IBC by completing a career-focused program of study, passing required coursework, and successfully taking an industry-approved certification exam.
When you earn an IBC, you’re not just earning a certificate — you’re proving to employers, colleges, and the military that you have real, job-ready skills. Many certifications can help you get hired faster, qualify for better pay, or give you a head start in college programs.
In Texas, the Texas Education Agency (TEA) tracks how many students earn IBCs as part of the state’s school accountability system. The approved IBC list includes certifications that prepare students for success after high school — whether that’s entering the workforce, joining the military, or continuing their education.
