2018-19 School Calendar

2018-19 School Calendar

  • 2018-19 Calendar Highlights:

    • Calendar includes 171 Instructional Days = 76,950 minutes (75,600 state required) so we have 3 ”banked” days to cover bad weather
    • Teacher/Staff feedback: "less up front PD days" and "need additional planning/PD days during the school year":
      • Maintained 3 dedicated “data days”
      • Added two PD days during the school year and eliminated one of the "up front" PD days
    • Parent feedback: "early release days are hard for parents/childcare", "avoid 'random' days off after major breaks", and "consider child custody arrangements when scheduling long weekends"
      • The district did not add any additional early release days to the 2018-19 calendar
      • The two additional professional development days were added to existing breaks (October 9 and January 18) in order to help alleviate parents having to find childcare for additional single "random" days
      • The December 7th data day is on the first weekend of the month while the October 29th and February 22nd data days are part of the 4th weekend of those months
    • Staff and parents asked to maintain the 4 day fall break for students and staff in October. An additional day was added to the break for students (October 9) to provide a professional development day for staff
    • Maintained winter break including full week of Christmas and full week after Christmas
    • Spring Break is the 2nd full week in March, which matches the calendars for Collin County College, Wylie ISD, Royse City ISD and Rockwall ISD
    • Last day of school for students is May 30th
