COVID-19 Clousure FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions about COVID-19 School Closure

  •

  • Will we have to make up the missed days?

(3/18/2020) We don’t know yet. This is being discussed at the state level. As the situation develops and more clarification is received from TEA we will clarify that and communicate via our website, social media and blackboard email.

  • Will we still have STAAR testing?

No. Govenor Greg Abbott announced Monday, March 16, 2020, that he has waived the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) testing requirements for the 2019-2020 school year.

  • Will students still receive meals?

During this challenging and unprecedented time, taking care of our students remains our greatest responsibility. We know that some of our children depend on us for basic necessities like meals. Beginning Wednesday, March 18th, Free Breakfast will be delivered beginning at 8 AM and lunches beginning at 11:30 AM on each calendar school day to students at each regular bus stop. (Use this Bus stop look-up link for meal times) IMPORTANT: the student MUST be present to accept the meal per USDA regulations. We are not allowed to give meals to adults without the student present unless the child is a special needs student.

Social Distancing Reminder: Our district is 89 square miles and many of our students are at home with no transportation to bring them to a remote campus feeding location. In order to ensure that our Braves have access to food, we decided to deliver meals to the students via our regular bus routes. Parents and community members, please help us remind students to maintain a distance of at least 6 feet from each other at the bus stop and not stand in groups. If a parent or student is ill, or if your family has been asked to self-quarantine, please do not attend one of the bus stop drop-off locations.

  • What about extracurricular activities?

All extracurricular competitions and activities will be canceled or postponed for the duration of the district's building closure. While we are closed, all facilities will remain closed to students (except for our FFA students who need to feed animals), all practices will be cancelled and all activities will be cancelled/postponed.

The athletic department has contacted athletes and parents about a schedule for retrieving athletic clothing/equipment from the athletic facility this week (Thursday 3/19 and Friday 3/20) Contact Garrett Dorman with questions. 972-843-6215 or garrett.dorman@communityisd.org

  • How will Students Access the Online Learning?

Lessons will be ready for students starting on Monday, March 23, 2020. All students have been enrolled in Google Classroom. The login is their CISD student email address (first three letters of first name + first three letters of last name + the two digit birth month + cisdbraves.org) example: Melissa Jones, born in May = meljon05@cisdbraves.org. The password is the student ID#. Parents can also login to the Google Classroom. You should receive an invitation to join each teacher’s classroom.
