Hey Community ISD! I just have to say congratulations. I saw your CHS football team and coaches in the stands Saturday cheering on your band and color guard. One of my favorite parts of the day was hearing them go crazy in the stands. I am so proud of the support and encouragement you are fostering within your District. Great job!

It's incredible how Shatto Coleman and Allison McMurtry came together to support a high school student's passion for animals and participation in the FFA program. Their generosity in purchasing a show goat, especially considering how costly they can be, shows a commitment to the GENEROUS trait of a Brave while making a difference in someone's life. It's an act of kindness the students will undoubtedly carry with them for a lifetime!

The entire maintenance teams wish to nominate Cayla Pruitt and Blair Young for their generosity. Mrs. Pruitt and Mrs. Young, along with student volunteers, helped the maintenance team unpack and set up heavy floor tarps and chairs in the competition gym on Thursday, October 3, for a pep rally. They then helped us pack up the tarps and chairs so they could be moved back to the athletic complex in advance of the Friday football game. These ladies deserve a big BRAG! Thank you so much.

Why are you nominating this person?

I'm nominating Mrs. Funkhouser for showing all the Traits of a Brave. She is generous with her time by making herself available for helping teachers inside and outside of the classroom, troubleshooting things regardless of department, and still manages to work behind-the-scenes and do all the unseen tech things that keep our district going! Her passion and wisdom for growing our district's staff and students is evident in her research to find ways for us to get done the things we need to within parameters such as educating about new TEKS, obtaining coding kits and seeking out various ways to make CISD the best. Lastly, is her humility. She puts the needs of the district and teachers before herself and is always quick to thank others for their time! She is a behind-the-scenes hero who allows our district to shine!

I think Ms. Hale should have the Brave of the Week. She is loving and caring. I’m in the Mighty Braves Band and she is involved a lot, including getting the really good meals that we have while we are on the bus or at a competition. I love Ms. Hale from the bottom of my heart, and I hope she keeps making an impact as the Mighty Braves Band continues to grow.

Mrs. Tarrant is a long term sub in 4th grade, and she has gone above and beyond what is expected of her. She came to the school on a Friday to make sure the classroom was clean and organized and that she was prepared for the following week. She noticed that the students were having a hard time carrying their things from class to class so she sewed bags for the students to carry their things in. She has built great relationships with the students, parents, and the other teachers on the campus. She truly displays every trait of a Brave, and we are so thankful for her.

Why are you nominating this person?

I wanted to brag on how a student, Jade Reid, handled a medical situation with a staff member.

I had spoken to the staff member earlier in the morning, when I called back to give them an update, Jade answered the phone. I asked her to put the teacher on, and she came back and said, "Can you please call the nurse?" I asked her if she was joking and she responded no. I hung up and called the office. I immediately called Jade back to let her know someone was on their way.

Jade was able to calmly tell me what she was seeing. I remained on the phone with Jade until admin arrived.

Jade was calm, and though she was aware that something was not right, she didn't make a huge scene on the phone. I was very impressed with how Jade handled the situation.
