The Brave of the Week - September 2-6 - Skyler Whiffen

The Brave of the Week for August 26-30, 2024 is ... Skyler Whiffen of Roderick Elementary!

Skyler Whiffen, a 2nd Grader at Roderick Elementary, is the Brave of the Week for September 2-6. She was nominated by Megan Whiffen, her mother. Mrs. Whiffen's original nomination is copied below.

Why are you nominating this person?

Skyler Whiffen is a student at Rodrick elementary and is 7 years old. When Skyler was in pre k she begged for an alarm clock to wake up for school. We are on years three and she wakes up every day when that alarm clock goes off and gets ready. I don’t have to fight her or ask 10 times to get up and get ready. She also helps our neighbors prek and kindergarten kids at Roderick get breakfast in the morning and walks them to class. I hope this makes it it to the right person.

Mr. Honeycutt has been so incredibly helpful with rolling out a new payment process. His willingness to "guinea pig" this new application and help iron out necessary details has significantly helped to move things forward faster and more effeciently. On top of that, he has helped others with getting set-up and operational in the same system. I am so grateful for his generous spirit! Thank you, Mr. Honeycutt!

Why are you nominating this person?

Mrs. Porter always has a friendly smile on her face each morning while welcoming the children into Ellis. She welcomes each child by name and even came out to help me with my pre-k son that was not in the best of moods this morning. As a parent there is nothing more heart warming and comforting than to know that he is loved and cared for each day while at school. I can not thank her enough for her kindness and smiling face each and everyday.

Why are you nominating this person?

My boy had a very rough year last year, we enrolled almost two months before the end of the school year. He had no interest in attending school and he was just not having it. This school year he started off a little skeptical but was willing to try and let me tell you this boy did a full 180! His attitude and his actions have improved so much! He has learned to be a Brave not only in school, but he keeps that going outside of school too! He’s generous, kind, humble, wise, and caring too. He has become passionate about school and about learning to be everything and all that it takes to be a Brave! I write all of this with tears in my eyes because last year I couldn’t recognize my sweet boy and it makes my heart so happy to see how much he has changed and it’s all for the best!
