Ryan Receives Regional Recognition

AUSTIN, TX. - Joining an elite list of just 20 individuals across the State of Texas, Community High School (CHS) Principal Charles “Chuck” Ryan was named a Texas Association of Secondary School Principals (TASSP) 2023-24 Regional Outstanding High School Principal of the Year. Ryan took home the TASSP Region 10 honor in his fourth year as principal of CHS.

“We are so proud of Mr. Ryan and this accomplishment,” said Dr. Tonya Knowlton, Superintendent of Community ISD. “While we have known and witnessed daily the great leadership of Mr. Ryan, it is impressive for his peers and TASSP to recognize his impact on students and staff.  The district is so excited for Mr. Ryan and we will celebrate with him as he enjoys this recognition.”

To qualify for the regional recognition, Mr. Ryan and other nominees from the 80 public school districts and 35 public charter districts in Region 10 were evaluated on a 1 (lowest) to 4 (highest) scale across six categories, which included the following:

  1. Culture - Wellness
  2. Culture - Equity
  3. Culture - Student-centeredness
  4. Learning - Results-orientation
  5. Learning - Collaborative Leadership
  6. Learning - Innovation

School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership. As a Region 10 winner, Mr. Ryan is eligible to compete for the state title of Texas Principal of the Year.

Each of the region winners will be recognized during the Josten’s Night of the Stars Awards Dinner held in conjunction with the TASSP Summer held each year in June in Austin. Each will be presented with an award and recognized in a commemorative book entitled Texas Principals, Texas Heroes.

Finalists for the Texas Principal of the Year will travel to Austin for interviews in December 2023.
