No Badge, No Ride Enforced Starting October 19
The change supports the district's focus on the safety and security of our students and staff, and aligns with current policy on campuses. Only the blue-background badge will be accepted on campuses and buses.
Beginning Monday, October 19, 2026, Community ISD will reinstate its "No Badge, No Ride" policy on district school buses. Any middle school or high school student who does not have the correct, district-issued badge will not be allowed to board a bus. The change supports Community ISD's ongoing focus on the safety and security of its sixth- through 12th-grade students.
The district's bus tracking system recognizes only the blue-background badge, which allows Community ISD to know when each student steps on and off a bus. Requiring one consistent, district-issued badge on campuses and buses reinforces the safety and security measures already in place at Community ISD's secondary schools.
The correct badge for the 2026-27 school year has a blue background on the back side with an explanation of what the badge is used for. Campuses have issued two badges to students this semester, and beginning October 19, only the blue-background badge will be accepted on campuses and buses. The other badge, a badge provided by our yearbook provider, does not have the proper technology to work with our bus tracking system, and will not be recognized as a valid ID. This incorrect badge has a white background on the back side.
The policy applies to morning pickup from home and afternoon pickup on campus.
What Families Need to Do
Students should carry their blue-background badge every day. Students who have misplaced their correct badge or did not receive the correct badge should ask their campus to print one. The first district-issued badge is free for all students, but each additional badge is $5. All secondary campuses now have the supplies needed to print the proper badges, and students should request their replacement before Fall Break begins on October 12 to avoid disruption on the day the policy takes effect. Carrying the correct badge every day helps the district maintain a safe and secure environment across campuses and buses.
About the RFID Badge Program
The RFID badges are part of the district's MyRide K-12 program with Traversa, approved by the CISD Board of Trustees in January 2024. The program also includes the MyRide K-12 app for parents and guardians, bus routing software, mobile data terminals on all buses, and GPS tracking. The district began training and testing in 2024-25 and piloted the badges with secondary students in 2025-26. Families with bus-riding students who have downloaded the MyRide K-12 app can track in real time when their students step on and off the bus, along with active bus tracking and more accurate pick-up and drop-off times, providing added peace of mind for families.
At this time, the district uses the RFID badge exclusively for transportation, though the system was purchased so the program could later expand to areas such as attendance, library, or student meals.
