Darvin Peterson: New Leader for Lady Braves Basketball

Darvin Peterson has been named the head coach for Community High School girls’ basketball, joining the Lady Braves after two seasons at Tenaha High School.

He guided the Lady Tigers to a 51-12 overall record, claiming a district championship and reaching the regional semifinal round. He developed multiple all-district and all-state student-athletes, adding to his track record of building programs and improving player performance.

Peterson previously served as head coach at Dallas ISD’s Molina High School, guiding the Lady Jaguars to their first winning season in over a decade.

Peterson is a former Division I student-athlete, having played football at Tyler Junior College, New Mexico, and Texas A&M-Commerce (now East Texas A&M). At the conclusion of his final season with the Lions, he was named an AFCA first-team All-American. He went on to play professional indoor football for six years.

He brings a high-level approach to training, development, and leadership. As he transitions to Community, he remains dedicated to building a disciplined, competitive, and student-centered program.

His coaching philosophy centers on accountability, effort, and team unity, with an emphasis on developing student-athletes both on and off the court. He is committed to creating a strong program identity and aligning all levels, from junior high to varsity, to ensure long-term success for CHS girls’ basketball.

Coach Peterson looks forward to joining Brave Nation along with his wife, Laporsha, and children, Angel, Bubba, and Alexis, to become an active part of the community.
