STUDENT CONDUCT
DRESS CODE
PURPOSE The District=s dress code is established to teach grooming and hygiene, instill discipline, prevent disruption, avoid safety hazards, and teach respect for authority.
GENERAL GUIDELINES Students shall be dressed and groomed in a manner that is clean and neat and that will not be a health or safety hazard to themselves or others. The District prohibits any clothing or grooming that in the principal=s judgment may reasonably be expected to cause disruption of or interference with normal school operations.
The District prohibits pictures, emblems, or writings on clothing and jewelry that:
1. Are lewd, offensive, vulgar, or obscene.
2. Advertise or depict tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, drugs, or any other substance prohibited under FNCF (LEGAL).
Specific dress and grooming guidelines are as follows:
1.
Shoes must be worn at all times.
No house shoes, slippers,
flip-flops, or sliders shall be worn.
In Pre-K-grade 4, the height of the heel shall not exceed one and
one half inches. In
pre-K-grade 4, shoes shall have a back or a strap across the heel.
2. Sunglasses, hats, caps, hoods, or bandannas shall not be worn in the building.
3.
Hairstyles, colors, lengths, or cuts that
are extreme and distracting are unacceptable.
Shaved patterns including letters, numbers, symbols, and the like
are not permitted. Male
hair shall not extend below the bottom of a normal collar.
Hair must not hang below the eyebrows.
4. Tank tops, sleeveless shirts, midriffs, mesh, net, or any other see-through clothing shall not be allowed. Shirts worn outside of pants, shorts, or skirts cannot extend past the wrist with arms naturally at sides. Female neckline should not be lower than the arm pit when arms are held out parallel to the floor.
5. Walking shorts, dresses, and split skirts shall be allowed as long as they meet the following standards:
f. They must fit at the waist and be the correct size.
g. They must be hemmed or cuffed.
h. In grades 5-12, length shall be no more than four inches from the floor when the student is kneeling on the floor. In pre-K-grade 4, the length must be mid-thigh or longer.
i. No biking shorts, cutoffs, boxer shorts, or combination thereof shall be allowed.
j. Splits in dresses and skirts must meet the criteria specified in Ac@ above.
6. No chains or straps (including those attached to wallets) shall be worn.
7. Earrings are banned for all male students both at school and at school-sponsored activities. Body piercing and wearing nose studs or rings are banned for all students.
8. All pants, shorts, and skirts shall not have holes or tears and shall be hemmed at the bottom.
9. Pants shall be the appropriate size, worn at the natural waist line and shall not sag. It is recommended that a belt be worn. The width of the lower part of the pant leg shall be no more than 12 inches from inside seam to the outside seam.
10. Appropriate undergarments shall be worn by students. Undergarments shall never be visible.
11. Gang-related clothing or other items shall not be allowed. Each campus shall keep an ongoing list of specific, gang related attire that is prohibited.
12. Male students shall not use artificial means to hold hair in place. (ie: rubberbands, clips, etc.)
13. Male students must be clean shaven, except for neatly trimmed mustaches which do not extend below the corners of the mouth. Sideburns must not extend below the bottom of the ear lobe.
14. No trench coasts or dusters may be worn to school.
15. Tattoos and body art shall not be visible at any time at school or school-sponsored events.
16. School approved uniforms for school-sponsored organizations shall be allowed to be worn only on days of events.
17. Any other additions or accessories that are deemed inappropriate by the principal shall not be allowed.
The student and parent may determine the student=s personal dress and grooming standards, provided that they comply with the general guidelines set out above and the District=s dress code for students in the student handbook.
